The Danish krone was introduced as currency in 1875 and is also used on Greenland and the Faroe Islands. In 2000 Denmark held a public vote for switching to Euro but the people voted the proposition down. The Danish krone has a fixed exchange rate to the Euro through the European Union's exchange rate mechanism.
